Steel systems

We produce our steel joinery on Jansen systems, a Swiss manufacturer of steel profiles that has been on the market for over six decades.

Steel is the material that achieves the narrowest profile sightlines and the only one that is non-combustible. That is why we use it in two very different situations: in heritage buildings, where an existing geometry has to be reproduced exactly, and in compartmentation with fire resistance requirements, where the wall has to stay transparent.

Each system below has the detail section published by the manufacturer, the declared technical characteristics and a link to the official data sheet.

Four system families

Systems

Steel windows

Slim profiles, with or without a thermal break, from the heritage window to the system certified for passive houses.

Systems

Steel doors

Entrance doors for heavy traffic, doors with high thermal insulation and internal doors with a minimal profile.

Systems

Fire and smoke protection

Doors, windows, walls and façades with fire resistance from E30 to EI90, plus smoke control doors.

Systems

Glazed walls and façades

The VISS mullion-transom systems: a thermally insulated façade with a Passivhaus certificate, a version without a load-bearing structure, structural glazing and a fire-resistant façade.

Hardware and accessories

The hardware of the Jansen systems

The profile gives the geometry; the hardware decides how the element behaves in use.

The Jansen range of window and door handles, in classic and modern versions

Jansen

Handles

A single handle line, drawn for the slim steel profiles. The narrow rose is all that fits on a 25 mm sightline without spoiling the proportion.

  • Stainless steel, extra-slim design
  • Extra-narrow roses and a 90° lever
  • 20,000 cycles for windows, 200,000 for doors
  • Classic and modern versions, for windows and for doors

Jansen

Hinges

The hinge decides how much the leaf can weigh and how cleanly the edge of the door reads. Jansen publishes both versions, visible and concealed, on the same profiles.

  • Steel and stainless steel, welded or screw-fixed
  • A visible version and a concealed version
  • Screw-fixed 3D hinges on Janisol Arte 2.0
  • Up to 180 kg on the window and 550 kg on the VISS door
Jansen panic bars for escape doors, to EN 1125

Jansen

Locks and lock cases

The number of locking points sets the burglar resistance class and the maximum leaf height. In fire protection, the lock is part of the certified assembly.

  • Single-bolt locks and locks with a retractable top bolt
  • Multipoint locks, optionally motorised
  • Panic locks and panic bars, EN 1125 and EN 179
  • Profile and round cylinders on VISS doors

Jansen

Operating accessories

The components that decide how the door behaves in use: how it closes by itself and in what order the two leaves open.

  • Surface-mounted closers or closers integrated into the profile
  • Closing sequence selector bars
  • Electric operators for windows
  • Automation for finger-trap-protected doors

Jansen

Finishing components

The bead that holds the glass and the gasket that seals it. On a profile with a 25 mm sightline, the design of the bead changes how the window reads.

  • Designer glazing beads, in several materials
  • An integrated gasket groove on Janisol Arte 2.0
  • EPDM or CR sealing, with different reaction to fire
  • Dry glazing or putty glazing

The exact codes are settled together with the system and the class required. In fire protection, the hardware is part of the certified assembly and cannot be changed freely. The Jansen documentation on hardware.

Colours and finishes

Materials and colours

With steel the choice starts from the material, not from the colour: only steel is coated; stainless steel and Corten keep their own appearance.

Coated steel

The standard version. The galvanised profile is powder coated or stove enamelled, to a code from the palette below or to any other RAL code ordered.

Stainless steel

Grades 1.4401 (AISI 316), 1.4404 and 1.4301 (AISI 304), bare or polished. It is not coated: the appearance comes from mechanical finishing — grinding, brushing, polishing.

Corten steel

Pre-rusted steel, with an industrial look, available on Janisol Arte 2.0 and Arte 66. It is not coated; the patina is the finish.

Colours for coated steel

The official Jansen palette for coated steel, with ten RAL and DB shades

Ten coded shades, eight RAL and two DB. Any other RAL code can be ordered; the palette above is the one the manufacturer publishes openly. What a monitor shows differs from a physical sample — the shade is confirmed on a sample, to the code ordered.

Surface treatments

Powder coating

The standard treatment for galvanised profiles. It covers the RAL palette, in different gloss levels.

Stove enamelling

The alternative to powder, for the same bare or galvanised steel profiles.

Galvanising

The basic corrosion protection. Most profiles are supplied strip-galvanised.

Wet painting

Where the geometry of the part will not take powder. In exposed areas, highly durable paints.

Mechanical finishing

Grinding, brushing, polishing. On stainless steel the final appearance comes from this, not from a coating.

The GSB seal

The profiles carry the GSB seal, recertified annually by independent institutes.
