Timber shutters

On many buildings the shutter is not an accessory: it is the element that completes the window and gives the façade its rhythm. Take it away and the building looks different.

We make timber shutters to order, for new build, for refurbishment and for buildings where the shutter is part of the original appearance.

About the product

The shutter is drawn together with the façade

The shape, the division and the method of fixing are settled on the actual façade, not on a standard model. On old buildings the shutter can be remade from the existing one, in the same proportions.

Beyond its architectural role, the shutter remains a solution for shading and privacy: closed, it stops direct light before it reaches the glass.

The finish is chosen together with the joinery, so that the window and the shutter belong to the same job.

Benefits

What a timber shutter solves

The appearance of the façade

On traditional buildings the shutter is part of the composition of the window.

Shading

Closed, it stops direct light before it reaches the glass.

Privacy

You adjust how much is visible from outside without giving up the window.

Shape to suit the project

The division and the shape are settled on the actual façade, including for unusual openings.

Reproduction from the original

For refurbishments, the shutter can be reproduced from the existing one.

Matching finish

The same shade and the same type of finish as the joinery.

Construction types

Solid shutter or louvred shutter

The two make-ups we produce. The choice depends on the architecture of the façade and on what the shutter has to do: close completely, or let air and light through.

Solid timber shutter

A traditional solid-panel timber shutter. Made to order and adapted to the dimensions of the opening, to the architecture of the building and to the existing joinery.

Louvred timber shutters, in light blue, with black hardware, on a timber window with glazing bars

Louvred timber shutter

A louvred timber shutter, available with fixed or adjustable louvres. The solution keeps the traditional character of the façade and, depending on the configuration, controls light and ventilation.

The shutters are made in the same timber species as the joinery, to keep the appearance, the behaviour and the finish of the whole consistent. The dimensions, the configuration, the type of louvre, the hardware and the finish are settled for each project.

Hardware and fittings

Shutter hardware

A shutter has its own hardware, different from the window’s: it sits outside, carries a heavy leaf and has to hold it open as well as closed. Our range carries the codes MCV B05 – B10.

The complete range, in one photograph. The codes on the board are the ones we use when ordering.

  • MCV B05A hinge with a threaded pin, for screwing into the frame or the masonry, with an ornamental shutter leaf.
  • MCV B06A pair of long strap hinges, one with a fixing plate and one with a threaded pin.
  • MCV B07A strap hinge with a corner plate, for fixing to the frame jamb.
  • MCV B08A vertical rod bolt, with guide supports and an operating piece at mid-height.
  • MCV B09Locking and fixing pieces: a catch with a keep and a lever stay.
  • MCV B10A rod bolt with an operating lever and end supports.

The descriptions above follow what can be seen on the board. The exact role of each piece in a shutter assembly — which hinge, which fixing system and which catch suit your leaf — is settled at order stage, on the actual size and weight of the shutter.
