MCV C01 – C06 espagnolettes
Six espagnolette designs, in brass, bronze and black finishes, with roses and levers of different shapes. They are chosen by the design of the joinery and by the finish of the rest of the hardware.
“Gueule de loup” is the traditional French window in which the two leaves close directly one over the other, on a beak-shaped profile. That is where the name comes from.
With no centre mullion, the opening stays clear across its whole width. That is why this type of window appears again and again on old buildings and on those designed in their spirit.
About the product
In an ordinary two-leaf window a mullion remains between the leaves. In a Gueule de Loup window there is none: the active leaf closes over the passive one, and the beak-shaped profile makes the joint between them.
The result shows from the street. The window reads as a single opening and the proportions of the façade remain those the architect intended. For buildings whose original joinery was of this type, it is the only version that keeps the appearance.
We make this type of window in laminated timber, to order, to the actual dimensions and geometry of the opening. The division, the finish and the method of installation are settled for the project.
Benefits
The two leaves close one over the other, on the beak-shaped profile.
The opening stays usable across its whole width, both visually and practically.
It is the right solution where the original joinery was of this type.
The window reads as a single opening, not as two openings side by side.
It is made to the actual dimensions of the opening, not to a standard size.
The shade and the type of finish are settled for each job.

Hardware and fittings
In a Gueule de Loup window the active leaf closes over the passive one, with no centre mullion. It is exactly the configuration in which a functional espagnolette makes sense: it takes the locking vertically, at the head and at the sill.
Where the configuration of the joinery calls for it, the espagnolette is fitted functionally and actually does the locking: the lever turns the rod, and the rod engages the head and the sill. It is the traditional solution for this type of window. The espagnolette is the vertical bar on the leaf, with rods running up to the head and down to the sill. Depending on the configuration of the joinery, it can be functional — that is, it actually locks the window, through those rods — or it can be fitted decoratively, over concealed modern hardware. The decision is taken at design stage, together with the type of opening.

Six espagnolette designs, in brass, bronze and black finishes, with roses and levers of different shapes. They are chosen by the design of the joinery and by the finish of the rest of the hardware.

The complete set for an espagnolette: the lever, the rose with a keyhole, the rod supports and the rod itself, supplied in the same finish. C7 in black, C8 in patinated brass.
They are chosen in the same finish as the espagnolette, so that the whole reads as one from the façade.

Handles with a classic design and an operating spindle, for timber windows. F01 with an ornamental rose, F02 with an elongated backplate. They are fitted to the window hardware and operate it.

Visible hinges, with an ornamental pin. B01 galvanised, B02 and B03 in bronze and patinated brass tones, B04 in wrought black, with a shaped pin. They stay on show on the edge of the window, so they are part of how it looks.
Whether the espagnolette is functional or decorative is settled at design stage, together with the type of opening and the window hardware. Both versions are possible on the same espagnolette design.
Technical documentation
The detail sections — head, centre and sill junctions — are not published on the site. We send them on request, for the configuration you are interested in.
